South College is a bustling place, with plenty of sports and society socials, balls, formals and more. If you’d like support in organising an event from the JCR, contact our events officers, Ralph and Louis, through their email - south.jcrevents@durham.ac.uk.

Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomine - Monday
Oswald's Players presents South College's second annual pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk! Tickets will be available closer to the time, we can't wait to see you at South's first theatrical show of the academic year.

Trans Day of Remembrance
Join us in the Plaza to commemorate transgender people, achievements and history.
Open Mic Night (Du Stand Up Soc)
Come along to our Open Mic Night, in collaboration with DU Stand Up Soc. Students from across the University will have their opportunity to take the mic and deliver a set. Whether you'd like to laugh along, or take the mic yourself, please do head down to the Nest on the 21st for an enjoyable evening.
Winter Ball
South College hosts two seasonal balls in the Summer and Winter, which celebrate the beginning and the end of the academic year. Our 2024 Winter Ball, which will take place at Beamish Hall on the 25th of November, will have a theme (TBC), dinner provided and stunning entertainment, including live music and more. Tickets are cheaper for JCR-Levy payers, and there are also ents-only (dinner excluded) tickets available. Non-college guests are more than welcome to attend.
Movember Karaoke
Get on your singing voices as we musically commemorate Movember in the Nest!
Movember Social
The Movember Social is in aid of men’s mental and physical health charities. Last year’s Movember social was especially popular, and featured mullet shavings, live music and more charity challenges.
South Come Dancing
South Come Dancing, hosted by South College Dance Society, will showcase the talented dancing skills of South members in aid of Movember. Join to see South ‘celebrities’ compete with the ‘professionals’, and keep an eye on their socials page for how you can get involved. Times TBC.

Christmas Formal
Formals at South take place in the Hub, and are an opportunity for Southies and guests to enjoy a 2-3 course dinner and hear speeches from special visitors. The Christmas Formal, of course, will have a traditional roast Christmas dinner.
Formals in South will also see student bands playing in the Nest following the formal.
Band Night: Doorsteps
After the formal, be sure to make your way down to the Nest, where we will be joined by Doorsteps for an hour. It’ll be a great chance to socialise and listen to some good music.

Pub Quiz
Join us for the final quiz of Michaelmas term, which is likely to be the biggest one yet! We have Lee ‘The Warden’ Worden hosting his big quiz of the year. We’re sure many Southies will tell you Lee’s quizzes are always enjoyable. Come down to the nest for your chance to win the final Prize Wheel spin of the year.

Our Epiphany JCR’s public meetings (‘Parliaments’) will be on the 21st January, 4th and 18th February, and 4th and 18th of March. These Parliaments will be dedicated to electing the 25/26 Executive Committee, and this Parliament will be to elect the new JCR President for the next academic year.

South Ally Pally - Join us in the Nest for an evening packed with darts and good chat. The players will be a range of abilities. Be sure to look out for the sign up closer to the night!
College Marriage Ceremony
Get married to your college spouse(s) in our ceremonies in the Nest. Be sure to have your vows ready!
Bandaoke
Head along to this fun and unique event, where you can sing karaoke, but with the support of a band behind you. Trialed in Fresher’s Week, we had fantastic feedback from this event and hope the next will be just as good, if not better.

Annabelle and Maddie’s Charity Quiz Night
On Friday the 25th, we have a charity quiz being hosted by South notables Annabelle Langley and Maddie Boyes. Watch out for further details regarding for which charity this will be. If you don’t hate charity, then this is not a night to be missed ;)
Come down to the Nest for a chance to spin the Prize Wheel at the end of the night.

'Join us for a lively and entertaining Environmental Trivia Night! Whether you’re a nature enthusiast or just looking for a cozy fun night, this event is for everyone. Gather your friends, grab a drink, and put your knowledge to the test with exciting questions!

We will discuss the new standing orders and job descriptions in more detail and address any questions or concerns you may have, then kick off the referendum to have them put in play. College Parents are older Southies who are want to introduce you to college life and become a trusted friend.
Pub Quiz
Join us for our first full college quiz of the year down in the Nest. This night will be hosted by 2 special guests who go by the names of Fraser Brannigan and Alex Rylands - as they are both second years now, there should be no silliness involved. Come down, have a good time, socialise, and potentially end of being a winner and spinning the Wheel of Prizes.
Take Me Out: South Edition
Come down to the Nest for South’s spin on a British classic. There may be no Paddy McGuinness but there will be pints of Guinness. You may not end up on the Isle of Fernando, but I’m sure we can arrange a romantic walk around Van Mildert pond ;)
Returners' Social
The Returners’ Social is an opportunity for Second Years and older to get together after their summer break. This will take place in the Nest until closing time.
Freshers’ Formal ii
Our Freshers’ Formals give our 24/25 Freshers the opportunity to experience a South College Formal dinner free of charge. This is event is the second of two, allowing you to meet new people, enjoy nice food, and have fun.

Freshers' Week 2024
This week we welcome new members of South College with plenty of events and opportunties to get to know other Southies. Our team of FREPs (Freshers’ Representatives) will help with moving in, running events and showing freshers around Durham, as well as providing welfare and support.
