Welfare Support and Report Tools

At South College we want to ensure that everyone has the best student experience possible, that means looking after your welfare and making sure you are safe and enjoying your time at University. Below you can find a number of contacts, links and information about the Welfare services provided by the South College JCR, South College Student Support, Durham University, the Durham Students Union (DSU) and support services in the local area.

We will bring attention to these support and report tools as well as specific issues facing students during our Welfare Campaigns including: Consent Matters, Healthy Living, Mental Health, Stress Less, Alcohol and Drug Awareness, Sexual Health and Guidance and much more.

South College’s Assistant Principal (Student Support) can be found in the main South College building Monday to Friday 9.00am-5.00pm

They are also available in the JCR Office during their Office Hours during term time. They are there to signpost and support you, even if you just need to talk over a cup of tea.

Report and Support Durham

Report and Support is an online tool for Durham University staff, students and visitors; you can report an incident (anonymously or with contact details), find support within or outside of the University and further advice. Please find the link below for more information:

Durham Studen Union Advice Service

The Durham Student’s Union are amazing and offer so much support through their advice service here you can find information on Housing Support, Academic Support, Financial Support, Non-Academic Misconduct, Complaints, Wellbeing, and Harassment and Discrimination.

University Counselling Service

The Counselling Service is a team of trained and experienced practitioners to help you manage any difficulties that are impacting your successful engagement with your studies and with University life.

They are available all year round to registered students via self-referral and to staff members via a referral from Occupational Health.

They are based on the ground floor of in the Palatine Centre in Durham.

Citizens Advice provides free, confidential and independent advice to help people overcome their problems. They offer support over the phone, online or in person and the nearest branch is in Durham Town Centre on North Road.
